Tragic facial hair

So those who have to work with me or live with me every day know that for the month of Movember [sic] I am developing a talented moustache (henceforth referred to as the “Mo”).
I am doing this for charity – to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer and Men’s health issues. And there are a bunch of us doing it at the office.
It has been an interesting experience. Doing less of something (shaving) might seem like a pretty lame charitable activity but you know there’s something pretty strange about changing your entire appearance for a whole month. In the office, since everyone knows about it, it’s just a bit of fun. But on your own, face to face with a random shop assistant or an old friend – it’s a pretty wierd thing. I started off pretty self-conscious about the whole thing – feeling pretty “exposed” when I went into shops – I felt people were looking at me funny and tried to excuse it. But then more recently, I’ve grown used to it and am brazen in my Mo – even proud of it’s mixed ginger, white and blonde colouring…
The only issues are a tendancy to stroke it during the day and a nasty ability for it to capture secret food supplies for a second “tasty meal” later.
S is unimpressed in general, although when I tell her I’ll shave it off she objects strongly on the principle that I should finish the task.
No hard sell on the donations but if you’d like to donate some to the charity, click here.
The money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men’s health issues and donated to The Prostate Cancer Charity which will have an enormous impact on many men’s lives and the awareness will help us to fight prostate cancer on every front – through research, support, information and campaigning.
Did you know…
- Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. 35,000 men are diagnosed every year and one man dies every hour.
- 1 in 11 UK men will be diagnosed in their lifetime
